destiny island layout/appearance.

- So, starting as if we're coming from the Play Island (our most familiar part of Destiny Islands), you have a full-shot of the main island. It's a lot bigger than I initially thought, thought it still holds onto that small-community feeling. There appear to be either mountains or volcanoes (most likely the later, given it's an island) at the back that span most of the island.

- Next, you hit the shoreline, probably the part of the main island we've seen the most. It's blocked off in places by the white fence, though there are gaps in it clearly intended for moving through. Looks like it's more aesthetic than functional.

- To the right are the boats that we can assume the kids are using to get to the play island and more stretch of shore. For some reason I don't have a screenshot of the left part of the shore, but there's just more beach and a pier leading into the water.

- We can get a quick look from in the air of the rest of the island from the shoreline.

- Heading up the path begins to take us into the housing area of the island (though whether it's the only one isn't really clear). There are numerous streetlights along the walking paths between houses, and they look like they're constructed simply out of planks held together by metal or rope. The lights are simple tear-shaped light bulbs(?). The placement of houses and water can help us sort of piece together an idea of orientation here.
- The first image is starting up the path.
- The second is further up the main path, and more towards the center of the entire place.
- The third image is just to the left of the second, which you can tell by the same house and branching path to the right.
- The fourth image is further up from the third, showing the part of the pond we begin to see in image three.

- Continuing to the left leads to another new path, and another cluster of houses.

- Continuing right does, well, the same thing. This is the housing section! The second image is farthest up the path (the tree from the first image is seen in the middle-right), nearing the way to the possible business/schooling district.

- Before we move on, a better view of above the housing area, to (hopefully) clear up confusion with orientation. Some of the houses and paths have disappeared due to the lack of collision in the mod. The first image is coming from the shoreline, the second, third, and fourth from the possible business/schooling district and getting farther from the shoreline. There's what looks like a little owl on the post. It's cute!

- Now, the path, coming from the shoreline, to the possible business/schooling district. The second image is the same path, just focused back towards the housing district.

- The possible business/schooling district is difficult to really discern, because no models were made for the area, from the looks of it. it's basically just a pasted, low-res photo. A common factor is that there seems to be a section of water separating it and the housing area. The lighting from the sunset turns the water around the island red, and it can be seen. Presumably, there's a bridge or something like that to let everyone get across. What you can make out looks like tall buildings, and so is potentially the business and schooling area of the island.
- Image one is the left half, image two is the right half, coming from the housing district.
- Trying to get towards it in BBS leads to a lot of model loss, as seen in images three and four.

- And finally, the back of the island. Part of the possible business/schooling district seems to be housed very close to the probably-volcanoes. It also seems to be a pretty decent size.

AND THAT'S THE ISLAND. Or at least our unintended, low-res version of it. It's bigger than I intially assumed, though the housing area gives it something of a tight-knit and old-timey feel, imo. I also like the possibility of there being separate areas for housing and businesses, essentially keeping work and home separated with it.

on 2015-02-20 05:17 pm (UTC)» There are two languages spoken on Destiny Island: the universal language of Kingdom Hearts (likely English given Kairi's letter, 'door to darkness', etc) and the native language, Destinni.
» Destinni shares a lot of its nuances with Hawaiian, and anyone who speak Hawaiian would be somewhat able to parse what is being said.
» The crime rate on Destiny Island is very low, if not practically zero. Extreme crimes like murder, rape, and abuse are incredibly rare and are met with complete horror from the community the rare times it does happen. These are all taken very seriously when they occur.
Things like theft are more common, but still rare. Overall, it's the kind of community where you can leave your store wide open while you go off for an hour lunch break, and come back to find payment on the table from everyone who came in for something while you were gone.
» The community is a mix of conservative and liberal attitudes. This shows in things like the children receiving full sex-ed, but being encouraged to wait until marriage and emphasis on physical relations being special. Establishments like strip clubs or night clubs are pretty much unheard of. Homosexuality is rare on the island, and while it's not looked down on, it's not something the islanders are used to. They're accepting of it, but would have no idea how to react to it for a while.
» "It takes a village to raise a child." would be the best quote to use to describe the community attitude towards themselves. The islanders place a lot of emphasis on the values of cooperation, family, and love. They believe the only way to continue to maintain a thriving, peaceful community is to work towards it as a community, helping each other when needed and working together to properly raise the next generation.
