He's looked forward to it since he realized that girls were something other than weirdos to be avoided if you didn't want to get cooties.
He wouldn't admit it to anyone at all ever, but he'd been holding out the hope that it would be Kairi's name that appeared on his wrist. So when it isn't, when it's Vanitas's name, he wants to stop and think it's some kind of messed up joke.
An hour of scrubbing later, he's proved wrong. It's not some sort of permanent markered-prank done by who-even-knows. It's an actual declaration of Vanitas as his soulmate.
It takes him an entire day after the name appears to finally storm up to the house next door, looking caught between anxiousness and frustration as he knocks loudly. ]
